IF - Old fashioned.

This is an older quick little electronic sketch of mine I did for something I needed at the time however she has ended up being a sketch that gets used in a lot of little bits and pieces now, when I need a stern old lady character. In fact she is affectionately known to me as "old school marm".

As much as I love doing new illustrations for IF I just thought she fit the project so well this week that it would be unfair on her not to use her. :-)  (yes I seem to develop a connection with certain of my characters)

Illustration Friday - Acrobat

Oh nooo! Back to work next week after 8 glorious weeks off. Maybe these three little mice are symbolic of me once I start back in the rat race, trying to juggle family, full time work, and art. Hope I can do it with ease they seem to posses.

Woman and dog

I decided to try out a different style, well  try out something based on a lot of illustration styles I have seen that appeal to me. I wanted to look at this more collage style of illustration and 'try it on' so to speak while maintaining my own style within it.
It has gone through many phases of adjustment, this is number four and I am finally happy with it.

I have decided I like individual elements of it as individual images as well.

Illustration Friday - Proverb

Well, I haven't had a lot of time but wanted to do a sketch for Illustration Friday, now i have started I want to try and keep up to it now and again at least. This is a quick work for the proverb "A stitch in time saves nine" and my unique take on it today....

Maybe on some deeper level it signifies my focus on time this week and my desire for it not to run away, hence stopping it leaking out of the broken nine. On the other hand, it could just be an image that came to me that I thought would work when I thought of the proverb!

Initially water colour then digital embellishment.

Beauty in nature

Well, we have been away for a few days and so my artwork has been on hold. I had plenty of inspiration while i was away, just not the time to do anything with it so I have tried to store up the feelings, vision and beauty I saw to put into works at a later date. I also took plenty of photos. My art tutor wouldn't be 100% happy with that, falling back into 2 dimensional again, but hey, the scenery and the emotion it provoked was so impressive I know it wouldn't be just 2 dimensional if i did paint from inspiration of a photo anyway.
Where did we go? Into the desert at the most wonderful time to see it, when it is a tapestry of colour with the many native wildflowers that grow there. Mixed in with the red sand and beautiful blue skies it is a sight to behold. If you can you should try to get to outback Australia when its in bloom like that at least once in a lifetime.

This wouldn't be a pleasant climb in the middle of the night...

Painting Monday

This is a little painting I finished off yesterday on 'painting monday'. I did it plein air which is something I need to practice, and I did the work as a practical for my art course. I modelled it on our little blossom tree (flowering plum) which is struggling to get any bigger after being here for three to four years already. There may be slow progress but I don't really notice it much.

I am not sure if I will submit this one yet, it depends what other practice sessions bring I guess although I am very happy with this. It is water colour and acrylic and best of all hasn't had any digital touching up. I have nothing against digital adjustment, i use it a lot, I just want to get my art to a place where I feel I dont need to 'finish it' on the pc.

I call this one "blossoms" and it reminds me of long walks I used to take with my doggy near where we used to live, beside a lovely little creek which was lined with pink and white blossoms. A very peaceful and tranquil place to be and it was perfect. I love blossoms and the memories they evoke.

I've just bought myself some Artisan water mixable oil paints so look forward to trying those out, maybe tomorrow on 1/2 day painting wednesday. :-)

Illustration Friday - dessert

I've decided to join the wonderful illustrators I admire who provide illustrations for 'Illustration Friday'. I might not always get something up there but when I can I think it will be great fun coming up with ideas.
For 'dessert' I decided to go with an existing piece I'd done when I was going through my 'party' phase.

Originally title 'party girls' and its water colour, digital / digital collage

Our wet, cold and wild weather

We've had some really wild weather this way, Eenie and I got caught in it yesterday when we went out to the shops, we had to walk through a mini lake (ankle deep on me) to get into our car to come home. There was torrential rain at times, thunder and lightening and wind as well. A great day to stay inside which is what we did once we got home and out of our soaking clothes and warmed up again. Its a bit like it again today. While I love the rain and the wild weather, I like to enjoy it from inside looking out.
Anyway, we spent some time painting and these two quick sketches were inspired by our rainy adventures yesterday.

This is a quick 10 minute w/c sketch "Good weather for ducks"

This is another quick w/c sketch which has been digitally worked as well. "Wild Weather"
